Now that he had decided, Valtala felt giddy and electric. Was he really doing this? Becoming a Candidate would seem like a step down from Journeyman to his father and the other Master Seacrafters, but being a Journeyman hadn’t solved the blonde’s loneliness, so maybe a fresh start in a new world was exactly what he needed.
The little hop in R’dal’s step, as well as the fist pump into the air, only added to Valtala’s growing excitement. When the other proclaimed that they had searched a mermaid, the Journeyman gave an excited laugh, nodding in his agreement. “You really did!” He giggled as R’dal hugged his dragon.
"Guess we should talk to the craft Master now? We don't really do the kidnapping thing anymore, but we could if you want to be dramatic in your exit. You could leave a note stating you ran off with an adorable bluerider." R'dal laughed, and Valtala grinned back at him, green eyes sparkling.
“I think,” started the blonde as he whisked his fingers through his hair, while R’dal was checking his knots. “I think that’s exactly what we should do.”
Valtala was delighted with the idea of making a dramatic exit. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to do it.
“I think we should sneak back to my room, grab the important things, and leave a note. Besides, I am very sure that you would not relish the idea of talking to my father. He’s one of the Master Seacrafters. And he might want to fight you over it. He already thinks poorly of the dragonriders. I’ll write him a note saying that I’ve been Searched and I am running away with an irresistible bluerider, instead!” Valtala laughed to himself, draping his satchel over his arm. He bent at the waist to pick up R’dal’s towel, shaking it off of sand and folding it up before holding it back out to the other to take.
“Can you imagine what his reaction will be?” The blonde laughed again, clearly jovial about the fact that his disappearance could cause some mayhem in the Hall. “I love it!”
