posts Also referred to the Hatching Sands. This is where the Golds clutch their eggs. It's heated by piping underground that pumps water through from the west side. There are fires, fueled by dried droppings, that are constantly supervised day and night, year round. These fires heat the water piped under the Sands, which then also supplies the bathing pools and kitchens with a constant supply of hot water.
The back of the hatching sands is sheltered by the mountain it's nestled against, which is where the eggs are usually guarded by their mother. There is currently a temporary roofing system in place over the nesting area, created from stolen sails from the Northern ships that brought the expedition South in search of dragonriders. |

posts The Weyrling Barracks is directly south west of the Hatching Sands, only a stumbling distance away for newly hatched dragons and forming the west side of the Gather Square. It is large and relatively open, containing twenty small sleeping areas, thirty large sleeping areas, some storage rooms, two study/classrooms and two latrines. |

posts Directly south of the Kitchens, the Dining Hall forms the east side of the Gather Square. Inside it is a spacious, high-roofed room, with long benches lining it. While most of the tables go long-ways within the building, there is one that goes the width and is on a slightly raised platform. This table is where the leaders of the Weyr sit; the Weyrwoman, Weyrleader, Weyrsecond, Weyrlady and Weyrmaster, along with any future Goldriders. |

posts The Bathing Houses are actually, more specifically, a Hall which is divided into about fifteen or so rooms. Each room has a door, which are left open when unoccupied and closed when they are. Each room is capable of bathing three to five people, with a large pool like bath taking up the centre space, while seats, towel and clothe racks take up the outside edges along the walls. The piping that feeds hot water from the Hatching Circuit is pumped along the main hallway of the Bathing Houses, with smaller piping branching off into each bathing room to be fed into the baths when taps are turned on. Drainage is spilled out into the forests behind the Weyr Proper, creating a small murky area of swamp that is generally avoided. |

posts South of the Hatching Circuit and framing the south side of what has become know as Gather Square is the Healing Hall. While it takes approximately 20 minutes to walk there from the Hatching Sands, it's central location makes it easily accessed by all the buildings around there. |

posts The Kitchens are one of the most active areas of Katila Weyr. Situated to the east of the Weyr, it has access to some of the heated pools of water that come from beneath the Hatching Sands. It is in a building with these pools, as well as fire pits and benches. |

posts Similar in function to a traditional Weyr's weyrbowl, the Gather Square is somewhat of a communal gathering area. It is surrounded by sturdy posts mounted with lanterns and has a large fire pit dug out in the center. The area is big enough for young dragons to train in, but by the time they're large enough to fly the space is too awkward for a group of weyrlings and classes are moved to the outer boundaries of Katila. |

posts To the east of the Hatching Circuit is a building that was built over the duration of 230 and 231 AL. Completed in Early Winter 231 AL, the Weyrfolk Hall serves as a place for those who are unable to Stand to live for whatever reason. Whether they be too old, pregnant or have attempted to Stand more than twice and wish to no longer attempt to try to Impress, it is a place for them to be permanently away from the younger and more angst-riddled stolen Northerners without needing to build a new hut and live alone. Northerners who wish to continue to Stand may reside here when there is no imminent hatching if they desire. There is a section within this hall that is now a dedicated Creche. |

posts Of all the main buildings, the Craft Hall is the most south and out of the way, sitting tucked behind the Healer Hall and partly beside the Candidate Barracks. Inside it is mainly open plan, with walls creating different sections but not rooms. It is a place for people to create items from their crafts, or if they choose to start to learn a craft from other members of the Weyr. Depending on what's happening within the Weyr this can be a bustling building or completely devoid of life. |

posts To the south of the Weyrling Barracks are the Candidate Barracks. Once those stolen from the North have agreed to stay within Katila Weyr without trying to escape, this is where they are brought to live for the time being. There are currently 60 or so sleeping areas, but there is room for more to be accommodated. Inside there is also three rooms used as classrooms or study rooms. |

posts Around Katila there are over 200 small huts where dragonriders and their dragons reside. They surround the main buildings, and are ever expanding. Currently it takes two hours to walk from the most east hut to the most west, and one hour from the north to south. |
